Spring Awakening in Winter

This large collection of my work is a retrospective of my 35 years here painting the Cowichan Valley. A plein air painter, I have often been seen painting on location – and have been lucky enough to meet many wonderful people on the job! This show will feature pieces from several series: houses and gardens, florals, farm animals and interesting buildings. My painitngs radiate warmth and sunshine: this show is like a breath of spring in winter.

Jennifer is a ‘plein air’ painter who describes her work as “an expression of my perennial love affair with life and the beauty around me.” From a young age, as a child growing up in Yorkshire England, she was attracted to the brilliant colours and warm tones of country cottages with flowers trailing over fences.

“The thrill of painting in water colour is all about the beauty of translating feelings with brushstrokes of colour,” she describes. Her love of colour also comes from extensive travel abroad, particularly India.

From her attractive heritage home and studio overlooking the Cowichan River and Bay, Jennifer continues to be absorbed in nature’s beauty. Her paintings, she explains, reveal an optimist at heart. One who is absorbed in beauty, “whether it is a cerulean blue bench nestled under a blossoming tree, a highland cow standing knee-deep in luxuriant grass, an inviting tea service laid out on a wheelbarrow, or an idyllic-looking home set in a bucolic countryside,” she notes.

Jennifer is an award winning artist who holds art degrees from the University of Guelph and Georgian College in Ontario. She exhibits widely both in Canada and the United States. She is a founding member of Cowichan Artisans Tours, a group of full-time professional artists and artisans.

Jennifer’s exhibition in the CPAC lobby featured watercolours of local heritage buildings , some paintings of our beloved Cowichan Bay in ink and wash and, as always, works done in Yorkshire – my beloved homeland. I will have some giclee prints to exhibit as well (Also a giclee can be special ordered of any of my originals. )
